Early Life and Education

Peyush was born on 26 April 1985. He completed his schooling at Don Bosco School in Delhi, and then, like many aspiring Indian students, he initially aimed to get into IIT, but after not clearing the entrance, he decided to explore opportunities abroad. His excellence was recognized by McGill University in Canada, where he pursued a Bachelor of Engineering Honors in Electrical-IT, Control, and Automation from 2002 to 2006. During his time at McGill, he developed a passion for computers and coding, which eventually shaped his future career.

While studying, Peyush worked part-time as a receptionist, a job that further piqued his interest in technology. This combination of academic and practical experience helped him develop skills that would later prove crucial in his entrepreneurial journey.

Corporate Career and the Shift to Entrepreneurship

After graduating, Peyush Bansal joined Microsoft, USA, in 2007 as a program manager. Despite having a promising job at a tech giant, Peyush was not fully satisfied. His desire to create something meaningful and impactful led him to quit his stable job after just a year. In 2008, he returned to India, fueled by an entrepreneurial dream, though he didn’t yet have a concrete business idea.

 

The Birth of Lenskart

Peyush started from his garage, transformed that garage into an office, and began a “paying guest” kind of business. That’s when he met his co-founder, Amit Chaudhary, who was staying at his place. They analyzed that 40% of the total blind people from across the world are in India, but we don’t seem to have any great solution to it. That’s how and when Lenskart was born.

In 2010, they co-founded Valyoo Technologies Pvt. Limited, which later became Lenskart. It began as an online platform selling eyewear, offering convenience, variety, and affordability to Indian consumers. Over the years, the company adopted a hybrid business model, with both online and offline stores. And now Lenskart serves more than 40 million people in different countries.

Peyush’s vision for Lenskart was clear: to revolutionize how Indians buy eyewear by making it accessible to everyone while also offering stylish and quality options.

Growth and Success

Lenskart grew into one of India’s leading eyewear companies, with a presence in both the online and physical retail spaces. As of 2024, the company’s valuation stands at $4.39 billion, with Peyush Bansal holding an 8.21% stake in the company, with a personal net worth of approximately Rs. 600 crores.

Apart from Lenskart, Peyush has made strategic investments in various startups, including Push Sports, Yes Madam, and Jewel Box. He has also ventured into lifestyle brands like DailyObjects and the employee engagement platform Feedo.

Shark Tank India and Personal Life

In addition to his entrepreneurial success, Peyush gained popularity as one of the “sharks” on Shark Tank India, where he invested in innovative startups and mentored aspiring entrepreneurs. His guidance and technology-driven approach were admired by different entrepreneurs.

Peyush is married to Nimisha Bansal, and they have a son. The family lives a luxurious life, owning high-end cars like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Land Rover.
